Trail Rules

Allowed Uses on ART:

  • Walking, running, bicycling, and nature observation
  • Walking dogs on leash- requires cleanup of waste
  • Cross-country skiing, snowshoeing and winter biking (trail not plowed)
  • Use of electric wheelchairs and/or assistive devices for persons with disabilities
  • Accessing DEP Access Permit areas for hunting and/or fishing (hunting bows/firearms may be carried on ART but not discharged on or near trail)
  • Organized events, such as races, by Special Permit only

Prohibited Uses on ART:

  • Leaving rail trail to other DEP property without DEP Access Permit and parking in DEP Permit only parking areas
  • Use of motorized vehicles, including ATVs, snowmobiles, Segways, etc. except by emergency response and maintenance staff
  • Use of illegal drugs, alcohol and tobacco products (including e-cigarettes)
  • Horseback riding
  • Swimming, wading, bathing and/or allowing dogs to enter water along trail
  • Discharging firearms and bow on or across the trail
  • Camping, cooking, fires, and fireworks
  • Amplified sound or loud noise (without Special Permit)
  • Commercial activities
  • Littering, dumping, or leaving dog waste
  • Operating drones
  • Removing plants, animals or other objects from ART

Trail Etiquette:

  • Carry In/ Carry Out all waste and garbage
  • Bicyclists warn pedestrians and runners before passing on left
  • Slower trail users stay to the right
